Subject: A Tidy Little Crime Drama
Max and Arthur Alexander were in their mid-twenties when they started producing "B" movies. It didn't hurt that they were related to Carl Leammle, but with that foot in the door, they made some very good and well made "B"'s in the 1930's and 40's. This is one of the better of those.
A solid crime drama starring Charles Starrett before he became a cowboy hero at Columbia. Starrett had a natural boyish charm that carried him through several pictures as the athletic college boy type or some such in the 30's. He's quite good here.
Virginia Cherrill as the love interest is pleasant
but a non-actress, better known for her short marriage to Cary Grant than anything else.
Noel Madison as her brother is very good as the main bad guy, but he plays so "Jewish" in this part, you wonder whether since the character's last name is Worthington, if he was adopted as a child. (My joke)
Charles Delaney as the second bad guy was the face of the the 1930's in a multitude of "B"'s and he's quite sincere here.
A whole group of sturdy character actors add to the color and they are directed by Albert Herman with light touches here and there.
Yes, it's a gangster shoot'em up, but one of the better ones. Highly recommended. Enjoy
